The student versions are full versions and supported. What means that you can update your software officially and directly from autodesk. Maya 2016 Service pack 6 is the latest version and it's very stabile to work with. Autodesk is gaining too. They get a lot of bug reports from all those student versions. Same thing for autodesk 3ds max 2016 student version.
