I have a MacBook Pro and have only recently got into online gaming, I know that Macs are not meant for gaming. I also have Windows 8 installed on it through bootcamp, so my question is what is better for games to run i.e. Garry's mod, R.U.S.E my fav games. Mac OS X or Windows 8 through bootcamp.
PC Gamer's guide to gaming on a Mac. It will say whether it will work in OS X. Look for the Windows, Mac and Linux symbols on the game’s page. Than on Steam for these games.
The Mac specs are: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB Graphics card (built in to processor i think) It's also a mid 2012 model if that means anything? Thanks in advance.
Use OSX and buy games with 'Steamplay'. I have heard bad things about bootcamp. If you want to use Windows for gaming then you must do a proper 'dual boot' installation without running Windows through OSX bootcamp. I suggest you stick with OSX unless you need to play a PC only title.
S'Mac seriously Macs aren't great for gamers: 1. Most games run on Windows not OSX, though some are nice enough to have 'Steamplay' 2. It's impossible to get the best graphics cards on a Mac unless you install them yourself 3. Macs are not very upgradeable. In fact you might say they are deliberately crippled for that. Macs are very expensive and not good value per performance for a gamer. Macs are mostly mobile or mobile/desktop hybrid parts in everything except the (overpriced and outdated) Mac Pro desktops and simply can not compete with desktop performance, even though they can perform 'well enough' for many great things.
HD 4000 graphics is probably better than a current generation gaming console. It's not a 'gaming' computer though. There are many great things to be said about Macs, including fashion, style, portability, slim, professional looking and more. Performance is unfortunately not one of these things. When a game is done right you will always get better performance in OS X compared to windows on the same hardware, it's a much more effiefienct and proper OS. This statement is false, for the same reason that it is false about linux even if it's the most efficient and proper OS out of the 3.
The reason for that is 1. Graphics card drivers for OS X or Linux tend to just simply not be as good as the ones on windows, reason being that Nvidia/Amd are focusing on windows moreso than OS X. They know the games are on windows, they know their drivers are needed on windows more than anywhere else. Windows 8 is quite a lot more efficient than windows 7, and windows XP is more efficient than both windows 8 and OS X i can pretty much promise you (especially if you use the performance edition) in most cases windows xp will even be more efficient than linux since the window managers on linux today are consuming way more resources than they used to. You can not use Net Framework, nor XNA framework on OS X.
